Dato’ Dr Amir was appointed to the Board in 2018 and is currently the Chairman of the Board. Prior to this, he was the Chancellor of International Medical University (IMU) from 2014 to 2017, Pro-Chancellor from 2010 to 2013 and a member of the Board of Governors from 2006 to 2013. In 1985 he was appointed as Medical Director and Consultant Physician at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC). He held these positions until 1987. His contributions in the public sector from 1981 to 1998 were from the positions he held at the University of Malaya, University Hospital, College of Physicians of Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, National Council for Scientific Research and Development and the Malaysian Medical Association. Dato’ Amir was in Government Service from 1961 to 1975 serving in the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital, Hospital Besar Ipoh, Institute of Medical Research (IMR) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Dato’ Dr Amir established his own private clinic in 1976 and medical equipment consultancy in 1977. Both establishments are still in operation.
